Indrapramit Roy, an artist, teacher, occasional writer and sometimes an illustrator, born in
1964. He studied printmaking (BFA) at the Visa-Bharti University of Santiniketan (1982-87) and painting (MFA 1987-89) at the Faculty of Fine Arts of M.S. University, Baroda. Subsequently he was awarded the Inlaks Scholarship to study MA Painting at the Royal College of Art, London, which included a term each at Cite des Arts, Paris and HdK Berlin on an Erasmus Exchange Scholarship.
His paintings are a repository of memories, aspirations, dreams and desires’ expressing a whole range of associative or opposing meanings. He takes away the human agency as the prime actors of the drama, but the human presence is everywhere. His spaces are frozen moments of cinematic tension that goes much beyond.
His latest solo show -Soliloquy previewed in Ark Foundation gallery at Baroda and travelled to Threshold Gallery in Delhi in Aug-September 2022. He has had 19 solo shows till date and shown with Gallery-7 & Pundole Art gallery in Mumbai, Sakshi Bangalore, Anant and Threshold Gallery in Delhi, Galerie 88 – Kolkata and Aicon Gallery, USA. He has been part of many curated Group shows in major venues such as London, Berlin, New York, Melbourne and has represented India at Asian Art Exhibition in Macau, the Cairo Biennale, Cairo and India @ 70 at Bangkok. In 2013 he executed a 26 x 12 feet mural at the new Terminal-2 of Mumbai airport.
Honours and fellowships include Kanoria Centre Fellowship (1989-90), Inlaks fellowship to study at RCA, London (1990-92), Junior Research Fellowship by Government of India (1993-95), the Fulbright fellowship, USA (2004-5) and Artist-in-Residence at The Siena Art Institute (March 2013). Indrapramit Roy has been teaching at his alma mater MSU of Baroda since 1995.
