After contributing and organising art and cultural programs and projects India for more than ten years under the cultural organisation “Kalarang” in Delhi India, Shaji Punchath started Gallery 1000A , a contemporary art gallery to promote versatile artistic practices across multiple platforms. From 2014 onwards when the gallery started, it has already participated more than 32 international art fairs and doing wonderful business in Asia, Southeast Asia, Europe and the USA. Busan art fair, Gwanju art fair, Art Asia, South Korea, Art Dubai, Barcelona Swab festival and Hongkong art fair are a few among these participations.
Apart from promoting cutting edge Indian artists, during this period, Gallery 1000A also has represented, many European, Korean and Japanese artists of importance nationally and internationally.After a decade, today Gallery 1000A and its parental organisation Kalarang has become a name to be reckoned with high impact in Indian contemporary art with its reach and influence. Today it represents a few of the best in the art industry.
In 2007, few art lovers joined together to promote Indian art and formed a versatile organisation, Kalarang in Delhi. Since inception it has been a reckoning force in organizing artistic events under the dynamic leadership of Shaji Punchathu. Under its umbrella he has been able to organize 10 national artist camps, 12 national group exhibitions, four solo shows of artist of national repute and participated in 16 international art fairs Asia, Europe and USA. In this effort Royal Netherlands Embassy, Ministry of tourism ( Government of India ), ITDC and Kollam Muncipal council, Tripunithara Hill Palace, Government of Kerala etc had been his partner to make Kalarang’s efforts a great success.
Kalarang Foundation Delhi under the stewardship of Shaji Punchathu believes it is of great importance to preserve the cultural heritage along with identifying and promoting young talent in fine arts. Keeping this vision in mind Kalarang has formulated a multipronged strategy of organizing existing masters exhibitions, documentation of their works in videos and publications and conducting seminars while giving platforms for young artists with these masters in national level exhibitions. Kalarang is now also planning to partner with educational institutions in Delhi, Kerala and Karnataka to inculcate the culture of heritage inheritance among the young children by way of organizing art seminars and educational programs by senior artists, historians and art critics.
Kalarang Foundation Delhi also owns a gallery “Gallery 1000A” to promote contemperory art and artists in Indian and international market. In its efforts to further its ideals, Kalarang is also planning a few international art camp and exhibition by 2019 to promote Global peace through cultural exchange, a vision close to Shaji Punchathu. He believes Art elevate human conscious to appreciate the expressions of fellow human being and he consider Kalarang is the way towards it.
